Hollywood never ceases to amaze us, and many times we are awestruck, for the backdrop some of the movies portray.

Today, through this story, I am going to try to bring to you the magnificent canvases that inspired me to wander. These brilliant movies actually awakened the traveller in me.

Wild (2014)

The film is about a woman’s 1,100miles solo hike undertaken to get over the recent personal tragedies. With no prior experience, a pair of ill-fitted hiking shoes, a heavy backpack, and nothing else but her strong will, Reese Witherspoon, portraying Cheryl Strayed, sets out to hike the Pacific Crest Trail, one of the toughest and longest through-trails in the country. The Motorcycle Diaries (2004)

This awesome film is based on the life of Che Guevera and captures a time much before he became the iconic South American Revolutionary. Before the last semester of medical school, Che (Gael Bernal) and his friend Alberto Granado (Rodrigo De la Serna), travels from Brazil to Peru on a motorcycle for eight months, and covers over 14,000 kilometers. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (2013) 

Walter Mitty, played by Ben Stiller, embarks on a journey that helps him realise his true potential. He discovers new meaning of life as be explores new continents, and interacts with people from various backgrounds. Lord Of the Rings (2001-2003)

Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings captured the raw beauty of New Zealand, in a way, that no other film ever did before. The Lord of the Rings trilogy was filmed back-to-back for a period of eight years in New Zealand which served as the lovely setting for the fascinating world of Middle Earth. One Week (2008)

What would you do if you had only one week to live and fulfil your dreams? One Week is an inspiring story of a teacher, despite all odds sets out to live his life for one last time before he dies. Travel is the recurring theme in this classic romantic drama, starring Albert Finney and Aubrey Hepburn. The film begins with the couple’s road trip to Saint-Tropez. Seven Years In Tibet (1997)

This film is about an Austrian mountain climber, Heinrich Harrer, played by Brad Pitt, being captured in India by Allied forces while he was on a Himalayan expedition. Though he was captured and put behind prison, he managed to escape. The movie then follows the intriguing story of his journey to Tibet and also into Lhasa. Heinrich Harrer learns the spiritual way of life and gets introduced to his holiness, the Dalai Lama.
