What nonsense? Is the writer out of his mind.I mean from which angel is Bengali food cheap.Dude u need yo be loaded when u go for Bengali cuisine.
I mean all these south Indian,Gujarati, rajastani r cheap options. That s why they r found in random places.
How can anybody afford when Hilsa kg is 2000Rs.How much u have to shed if you go for Chitol,or koi fish.??Kindly show me a restaurant where u can have a Bengali meal for 50 Rs
Try eating in O Calcutta, aahely, bhojohori manna etc etc
Bengali like Kashmiri ( which again u won't get in any restaurant),r extremely expensive.Bengali meals r huge and consist of fishes. Every Bengali r proud of their culture and food.Sorry we r not ashamed but yes Bengali's r not typical ( we r not curd rice or only dhokla people).we love to experiment there fore we welcomed south Indian Chinese, continental etc etc with open arms. But nothing can beat an expensive Bengali food.

I am not sure which city is specified, but there are tons of posh restaurants in Kolkata and Mumbai, at least. The main reasons Bengalis prefer a different cuisine when eating out is to have a different experience: we are quite adept at preparing Bengali deicacies at home and enjoying it.

However this may change in a generation or so, as cooking elaborate meals at home is getting increasingly rare. The more it happens the more the Bengali cuisine experience while eating out is going to gain in popularity.

I dont agree with this article. In Kolkata few of the best restaurants serve best authentic bengali food.I agree that it might not be a very cool idea for first date but who prefers a Punjabi or say Gujrati thali even??Its about the changing cultural values why teenagers opt out from eating traditional food.In Kolkata restaurants like Oh Calcutta,Aheli ,Bhajahori Manna and Koshe Kosha are always swarming with people ...s to have a taste of the Food Capital not only Bengalis but also from different place.
The so called Thai and Chinese available in India arent authentic ...they are suited to taste the Indian taste buds.

While I agree with this post, there ARE up and coming Bengali restaurants and many that are neither dirty, nor do they serve unhygienic or bad food and are light on the pocket. People are slowly learning the impact Bengali food has on the culinary world and no longer are Bengalis ashamed of their cultural heritage..for the most part :)
