Remembering Dev Anand: Some Not So Known Facts About The Legendary Actor

He is one of the charismatic actors of Bollywood. Apart from acting, he was great actor, writer, director and producer.

He has also received prestigious awards like Padma Bhushan and Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his contribution to Indian cinema.

His rich legacy of movies included great films like Guide, Jewel Thief, Hare Rama Hare Krishna, Taxi Driver and will always be cherished and revered by his fans.

On the account of his birth anniversary let’s have a look at some unknown facts and pictures about this great actor and celebrate his achievements.

1.   He is often compared with Gregory Peck and he didn’t like this fact at all. He said once- “When you are at an impressionable age you make idols. But when you grow out of the phase, you develop your own persona. I don’t want to be known as India’s Gregory Peck, I am Dev Anand.”

2.   Many do not know that Dev Anand has two brothers- Chetan and Vijay Anand. And his sister is mother of famous movie director Shekhar Kapur.

3.   DevAnand was a very big fan of the great performer Charlie Chaplin. He had also got a chance to meet him in Switzerland.

 

4.   He had amazing collaborations with great film makers from across the world. He teamed up with Nobel prize awardee Pearl Buck. Also he had got an opportunity of making acquaintance with Frank Capra and Vittorio de Sica (who made Bicycle Thieves).

5.   He was bestowed with award with ‘Outstanding Contribution to Indian Cinema’ award by none other than Hilary Clinton in 2000.

6.   Dev Anand worked Suraiya his lady love worked together in seven films- Vidya, Jeet, Shair, Afsar, Nili, Do Sitare, Sanam all of which were super-duper successful.

 

7.   He had face many pressing times especially during his struggling days. He worked as a clerk too just to make ends meet.

8.   He had a fetish for shoes and jackets. His favourite colours were yellow, brown and black.

This star has given us countless memorable songs, films and dialogues that will always be evergreen like him.
