6 Bollywood Celebs Who Were Targets Of ‘Casting Couch’ Menace

Casting couch is indeed one of the worst kept secrets of filmdom from time immemorial. And another fact is that it is still prevalent.

There are many cases which showcase the seedy side of the industry. Many actors compromise and go ahead to trade favors in a bid to make it big but some say direct no on the face.

There are very few cases like sting operation that caught Shakti Kapoor and Aman Verma red handed or take the case of Madhur Bhandarkar as well as of Subhash Ghai;  that come into light.

The questions that loom on our head are that why there are no strict laws against such heinous crime? Why is this nuisance not yet curbed?

As we ponder and come up with answers, here is the list of actors who faced this menace :

1. Ranveer Singh

If you think only females are exploited then you are wrong even males are the victims of casting couch syndrome and many like Ranveer are asked to trade sexual favors.

In one of the recent interviews, Ranveer Singh expressed how he too encountered casting couch problem.

He said, “Casting couch is a very real thing.” He goes on to give a description of that disgusting meet with the casting director, “ I visited a certain gentleman at his home in Andheri and handed him my portfolio. But he kept it aside, and later I got to know what he was interested in. When I said ‘No’, he was heartbroken like a jilted lover.”

2. Sarah Jane Dias

Sarah Dias, who is model turned actress, revealed in interviews that she too faced the horrors of the casting couch.

3. Sonu Nigam

This renowned singer alleged one of the journalists on the grounds of sexual harassment.

4. Payal Rohatgi

She opened up the traumatic experience to media. She said that Dibakar, who is a well-known film director, asked her for a sexual favor. As per her statements to media, she faced this situation when she auditioned for Dibakar Banerjee’s Shanghai. When Dibakar was prodded on the same case, he rubbished the allegation and was supported by ace director Anurag Kashyap. Many said that her story is made up and soon the story died a natural death.

5. Tisca Chopra

This famous ace actress also faced casting-couch like situation in her career. But she navigated through such shameful activities and carved a name for herself in the Bollywood.

6. Anjana Sukhani

Anajan Sukhani didn’t reveal any names but she said that she had to face this problem just like many new comers had to face.

These are some cases which came in light but the reality is that if not all but the majority of new comers face this predicament.
