Encouraging the local weaves of Manipur Handlooms, designer Krishna Mehta’s collection saw the garments being present with a royal edge. Handwoven traditional and tribal weaves were seen in the hues of cobalt, crimson, red, fuchsia, orange and purple.

The silhouettes were long with jackets, skirted dresses, pants, flared tunics and the yard sari, while the fabric ranged from silk, wool and tweed with subtle layering.

Day four at the Lakme Fashion Week Winter Festive 2013 ended with the grandeur of Padma Shree Ritu Kumar’s ‘The Thunder Mountains and the Curling Vine’. The collection was a kaleidoscope of colours, weaves, styles and craft with hand-woven back strap fabrics, Bhutanese Tangkhas, prayer flags, kanni weaves, hand spun khadi, woven silks, leather, lycra jersey and jamavar motifs of Kashmir.

With the stage lit up in yellow lights with a golden backdrop, designer Vikram Phadnis’ last show on day three was grand. The collection, presented in association with Ponds Gold Radiance saw the festive colours of gold come alive on the ramp. “This line truly encapsulates the relationship that Indian culture has had with gold since the beginning of time. My show celebrates gold through a beautiful melding of fashion and beauty to express its striking nuances in a remarkable way,” said Vikram.

Inspired by the classic charm of the ’70s, the garments aimed to provide the corporate women with a line which could easily transform from a day at work look to a night about town outfit. “What better way to mark our debut than with revisiting the boldness of the ’70s coupled with the subtlety of today,” explains the designer who is the creative director of AND.

The Global Desi collection, styled in association with Liva, was a gypsy chic line with a range of gowns, jumpsuits and stylish saris with jackets.

Shehla Khan’s collection labelled ‘Tale of the Unexpected’ took inspiration from fairy tales, turning the fantasy into avante-garde. Designer Troy Costa reinvented the British tailoring styles of the 1930’s with his collection called ‘The London Eye’. Partly inspired by the Mark Gertler’s painting called ‘Merry Go Round’, the collection featured wearable separates with sharp tailoring and intricate detailing.

The Jaipur bride by Anita Dongre celebrated a bold, modern and independent woman who challenges convention yet loves tradition.

The Rajasthan-cum-Jantar Mantar-inspired collection showcased bridal lehengas with geometrical synergy portraying the architectural splendor of the famous structure.

Opening up to the live notes of Sona Mohapatra the collection featured saris, lehengas, jackets, palazzo pants and classic salwar kameezes. The designer also reinterprets the bandi, a classis menswear garment, into bridal wear.

While the collection showcased a new age Indian bride who was not afraid to live life her way, what also added spunk to the show was Sona Mohapatra’s high-energy music. The singer, music composer and lyricist curated a special set of songs – folk, thumris and Sufiana Kalam – to complement the design aesthetics of the fashion connoisseur.
