Controversy never took astray in the year 2014 when world’s top sports personalities let their mouth’s do the talking.

Just when the world praised the athletes for its dedication and hard work, there a few who let it rip off the field and attract many media eyeballs and take the social media ablaze.

When a sports figure or a player never shies away from speaking his or her mind, that’s where the media glare gets attracted to. Amidst the entire storm of controversies and over the top statements, we selected some handpicked ones that were not only divisive but also raking in the hits from media and fans.

Here are a few quotes from 2014 made by particular sports personalities that should never had been said in front of the mic:

Jose Mourinho’s Rant:
Start of 2014, Arsenal and manager Arsene Wenger were leading the pack of the EPL table. The French manager claimed that other Premier League bosses were playing down their title chances because they “fear to fail”. And when Mourinho knew about this, the former branded Wenger as a ‘specialist in failure’. Mourinho said, “I prefer to limit my show to the pitch. I pick the green grass over the red carpet, I’m more comfortable there. After the games, they show the goals, the assists, the chances. The nice saves aren’t remembered, even though you often risk to injure yourselves while doing those. If he is right and I am afraid of failure it is because I didn’t fail many times. Eight years without silverware, that’s failure. He’s a specialist in failure. If I do that in Chelsea, eight years, I leave and don’t come back.”

But friends is a big word. What exactly is friends? We have a good relationship and work well together.”
