Warm up exercises are a must prior to the workouts. The trainers suggest these warm up exercises before workouts as they prevent sprains and strains to your muscles. These warm-ups are so important especially during the winter season, when the temperatures are low and the body might take a strain or two as the muscles are tighter in the winter, so injuries are more common. So to avoid these, here’s some warm up exercises that one should practise before the workouts at the gym:

Stretches

While doing a walk or jog during the winter, it’s essential that one performs leg, arm and back stretches. Before hand, take some extra time to stretch your entire body. Also, don’t forget to stretch the hamstrings, the quadriceps and the Achilles’ tendon.

Side Lunge

If one has legs exercise on their minds, mind you, side lunges are must pre-hand. To perform side lunges, one needs to stand upright, with both feet facing forward. Then, place your hands on your hips, in order to keep your back straight.  Exhale slowly by taking your bodyweight across to one side. As you increase the stretch, the foot of the bent leg should point slightly outward.

Upper body twist

The upper-body is a vital part of our workout regime. To stretch your upper body, place your hands on your hips and move your upper body from left to right, then from right to left. Keep doing these clockwise and then anti-clockwise.

Walking

When on running on a treadmill at a higher intensity, you can take 5 minutes to walk and put your blood into motion. Also, while doing a small walk, one can also perform the hands and upper body stretches while you walk. Warm ups are a must before your workouts. Without them, the workouts and its high intensity might take a toll on your body and you will see strains and sprains which in turn might stop your workout regime. So, take warm ups as a compulsion!
